Head of Data Platform Engineering Lyon, France

JULIEN BOVET

Julien Bovet

I like to build data platforms that scale.

(And make dinner for 4 at 7pm.)

// Experience

Companies I've worked with

From startups to CAC 40, across all industries. Here are some projects where I (pick any that apply) contributed hands-on, led the team, the project, or the tech.

// What Matters to Me

A few things I believe in

The principles that guide how I work with data — and with people.

01

Work should be pleasure.

Life's too short for Sunday-evening dread. I pick teams, projects, and problems that make me genuinely excited to show up — and I build environments where others feel the same.

02

Operational excellence is non-negotiable.

Great ideas die in sloppy execution. I set up processes, tools, and workflows that make teams move faster while guaranteeing the quality of what they ship. Speed and rigor are not opposites — they compound.

03

It's all about perceived value.

The best work in the world means nothing if no one sees its impact. I obsess over making value visible — to stakeholders, to the team, and to the business.

04

I like to get my hands dirty.

I'll never choose between tech and management. I write code, review PRs, and build systems — because understanding what the team builds is how you earn the right to lead it.

05

All team errors are mine.

Team successes belong to the team and the individuals in it. When things break, I take the fall. When stakeholders have positive feedback, I make sure the right names are heard loud and clear.

06

I practice radical candor.

I genuinely care about the people I work with, and that's exactly why I tell them the truth. No sugarcoating, no sandwiching — just honest, respectful conversations that make everyone better.

// Passions

When the kids are asleep

Plot twist: I have hobbies that don't involve SQL.

Cooking

Stainless Steel Pan Aficionado

I'm on a quest for the perfect roasted chicken: crispy skin, juicy breasts, and Heston Blumenthal's triple-cooked chips.

Music

Double Pedals & 7-String Guitars

When you're unhappy with how your life turned out, remember I'm not living upstairs. I'm also building a drumming application called Systemic Drumming. It'll go live someday.

DnD

Your Favorite Dungeon Master

After Matthew Mercer, ofc. I roll ones when I should roll twenties. Roll twenties when I should roll ones. And make battlemaps my players will never battle on.

Mystery

Murder* Party Architect

I write immersive murder mystery scenarios where everyone is a suspect, and where more people will die before midnight. If you'd like a tailor-made scenario, hit me up!*All murders are fictional.

Gaming

Grinding the GTX 1070

I attempted Elden Ring three times and never got past the Tree Sentinel. Maybe I'm getting old.
